Legislation Modernization:
Mission Accomplished

The New Brunswick Real Estate Association has completed one of the most ambitious projects in our history: the modernization of our governing legislation. After four years of research, consultation, collaboration, and advocacy, the New Brunswick Real Estate Association Act received Royal Assent and became law on June 12, 2026.

This portal serves as a repository of work undertaken between 2022-2026 to modernize our legislation and support the successful passage of the Act.

What have our Members Told Us?

REALTORS® work together cooperatively to serve their clients. It’s vital not only that we are all trained to meet the same high standards, but that we also hold each other accountable if we fail to meet those standards.

SUMMARY

Prior to the enactment of our modern legislation, the real estate profession in New Brunswick had been operating under an Act written in 1994. A lot has changed since then, particularly our ongoing evolution from an industry to a profession.

NBREA co-regulates the profession in partnership with the Province of New Brunswick’s Financial and Consumer Services Division. As a self-regulator, protecting the public is our most important task. It’s also in our profession’s best interest: when we do it well with proper, modern tools, REALTORS® inspire trust and respect. If we do it poorly, trust and respect in our members is lost and our profession may entirely lose our right to self-regulate.

For over four years and with guidance by legal counsel and input from members and the public, NBREA developed its modern legislation based on modern legal and governance theories and best practices across other self-regulated professions. We are proud of the new Act, and equally proud to introduce it to you through this evolving web portal. As bylaws and policies are finalized that result from the new Act, they will appear here, too. Keep checking back to see our updates!

The Little Blue House, NBREA’s official podcast, tackles topics of relevance to REALTORS® and the real estate market in New Brunswick. Check out two episodes on our plans to modernize our Act and our Bylaws.
